she's back!

Alex's Homecoming

After serving for 18 months in Brazil, Alex has returned from her mission! We had a whirlwind weekend and crammed in everything we possibly could. Here’s a quick recap of everything we did:
  • Friday night we took the train into CT and grabbed dinner with the family at Dinosaur BBQ (the best ribs)
  • I rifled through a room full of vintage clothing that Jordan’s mom inherited from some fabulous old woman and I came away with tons of goodies, including a black (fake?) fur coat
  • We all woke up at 4:30 am (!!!) to head to the airport where we welcomed Alex home from her mission in Brazil!
  • On the way home, Jordan accidentally ate some chocolate with peanut butter in it and had a pretty terrible allergic reaction
  • We stopped by a pharmacy where Jordan drank half a bottle of Bendryl
  • Jordan looked better, so we grabbed breakfast at New Canaan Diner (I ordered chocolate chip pancakes!)
  • Jordan’s reaction went from bad to worse so we quickly found a doctor who reassured us that he would be okay, but prescribed some steroids for him to take
  • Alex was released from her mission by the Stake President, then we went home and slept for 4 hours while everyone did errands
  • We took family pictures and celebrated with seafood in town for dinner
  • Afterwards, we had Alex’s favorite Handel’s ice cream at home
  • Alex gave an incredible homecoming talk in church on Sunday
  • Jordan's mom threw an awesome homecoming party at the house after church and we may have eaten way too much Brazilian food
  • Next we went to Kalan’s Court of Honor and watched him receive his Eagle Scout award. He's the third boy in the family to do so and it was a happy moment for everyone
  • Jordan's dad drove us back home to Harlem where we walked up to our apartment promptly fell asleep
I'm exhausted just remembering everything! It was so great seeing Alex again and even better having the family all together again. It's too bad that three members of the family are leaving for school in the next couple of weeks. We're already looking forward to spending Christmas all together!
