Our Rudy Tree

As Saturday was the first of December, we decided it was acceptable for us to buy a Christmas tree. I mean, our advent calendar told us to, so it pretty much wasn't an option. You know how these things go. I was excited (as always) because this time last year we were weeks away from getting married, fighting off bronchitus/pneumonia, and preparing for finals that we really didn't do much to celebrate Christmas. This was going to be our very first tree! The beginning of a new tradition!

Lucky for us, there was a whole slew of Christmas trees right around the corner from our apartment. We sorted through the goods and found the perfect Charlie Brown tree. The guy helping us laughed at our choice, but we stood by that little tree (we may have named it Rudy). We carried it up to our apartment and plopped it in a huge glass jar with some water. We made the decision to always get a live tree for Christmas. It's prickly and sappy and smells like Christmas. It may be a little scraggly looking, but you have to admit, it's got heart.

(Also, please excuse its naked branches. We hope to eventually throw a string of cranberries around it some day. We like to ease our way into the holidays. Or something like that.)
